  • Structural family therapists focus on the structure within each family. They join the family in learning how each family works. Making slight changes to the structure can improve happiness and functioning.

  • This intervention creates a positive relationship between the therapist and the whole family by looking at family strengths and conflicts in interactions between family members. Therapeutic strategies include building conflict resolution skills, providing parent coaching and guidance, and improving family interactions to reduce friction within the system and improve connection.

  • Drawing from attachment theory, this modality is focused on adult love relationships. This approach helps distressed couples improve their relationship, build communication skills, and deepen their bond.

  • We parents and children to understand each other, talk and play about difficult experience, respond to difficult feelings and behaviors, and create a family story that leads to healing.

  • May utilize here-and-now experiences, playfulness, humor, intuition, spontaneity, and affective confrontation to join family systems. Therapists actively listen and involve all family members.

  • The family therapist investigates the influences of birth order, family atmosphere, lifestyle, and priorities. In a family context, feelings can emerge from perceived favoritism, sibling rivalry, or other family dynamics. Recognizing these feelings and the behaviors they motivate can be a therapeutic focus.
